Volunteers do all of it — digging, watering months later, carrying crates of books, sitting and reading with children. Tell us the time you actually have and we will match you to work that fits it.
Field roles, book roles and fully remote work. Pick what fits your week rather than what sounds most impressive.
Drive days
Dig, plant, mulch and stake saplings on drive days. No experience needed — you are shown everything on the morning.
A few hours, once or twice a month
Return to planted sites through the dry months to water, check stakes and flag losses for replacement.
Flexible
Collect pledged books, clean and repair them, and sort by language and reading level before they go out.
A couple of hours a week
Sit with children and read, help them pick a next book, and tell us which kinds of books are actually being asked for.
Drive days
Photograph and log drives accurately, including the parts that did not go to plan, so our records are worth something.
Flexible
Talk to schools, resident groups and panchayats about hosting a drive, and help keep our records and lists in order.
A resident, school or panchayat tells us about a patch of ground. Anyone can do this — it is the step that starts everything.
We visit with whoever suggested it, look at soil and water access, and check what already grows nearby and what has failed there before.
Khejri, rohida, neem, jaal, kair and other arid-belt natives, matched to that specific site rather than to a standard list.
Drive days are run with the people who live there, so the trees belong to the neighbourhood from the first day.
Species, count, location and date are written down for every drive, with photographs, so the site can be checked later by anyone.
Care rounds through the dry months, and replacement of what did not make it. This is the part most drives skip and the reason most drives fail.
We would rather have two honest hours a month than a lapsed promise of every Sunday.
